私の制作の根底にあるのは、焦がれるような気持ちです。喜びや悲しみであろうと、美しさや不格好さであろうと、感覚の生々しさを視覚化したいと思っています。
日常生活やよみがえる記憶のなかでしばしば、 光景や匂いや音、物事に圧倒されることがあります。
それは感動を通り越して、鮮烈な瞬間がどこか完結せず薄らいでいき、引き起こされた感覚のみが取り残され積もってゆくー そういう恐れにつながります。
圧倒感は、絵を描くことで止みます。それは過ぎゆく瞬間に抗い、自分の感情を受け入れる作業でもあります。葬るのではなく、鎮魂というかたちのとむらいにも似ていると思います。
絵は圧倒感の記録そのものと言えます。
感覚はそこで明らかにされ、瞬間は、心に迫った物事の存在と共に刻まれます。
それは安堵感をもたらして、私は解き放たれたと感じます。
【ステイトイメント/Statement】
A sense of longing is at the core of my painting.
I want to make visible the rawness of sensations; whether it’s joy or sorrow, beauty or roughness.
I often experience overwhelming feelings, triggered by revisiting memories; and in everyday life; specifically with sights, smells, sounds, and just regular events or objects. The overwhelmingness can cause a fear that the vibrant moments will be diluted then fade away, so they need to be captured. Otherwise I will be left with an accumulation of feelings that the triggers evoked.
Painting ceases the feeling of being overwhelmed. It allows me acceptance of the cascading emotions, and resistance to the fleetingness of moments. In a way, I can let the feelings die. Not dead and buried, more as if reposed in the soul.
There, the painting itself becomes a documentation of the overwhelmingness. It is where the sensations are elucidated. Through my work, the moments are ingrained and the existence of what evoked the feeling is sealed.
It brings me relief, and I feel free.
